Hi, I'm Mitchell Karr, founder of Lumi & Wood. With 15 years as a woodworker and 10 as an RN, I've always aimed to improve lives.
Frustrated by the lack of high-quality wooden accents in home decor, I decided to create my own. This passion project evolved into Lumi & Wood, fueled by a shared desire for finer craftsmanship.
Lumi (illumination) & Wood embodies our mission: brightening spaces with finely crafted wooden pieces that make a house a home.
When not in the workshop, I'm with my family – my wife Kristin and our children, Sawyer and Shealyn. They inspire and support this woodworking journey.

Meet Kristin Karr: The Heart of Our Home
As a speech therapist by day and the other half of Lumi & Wood always, I bring a unique perspective to our family business. While Mitchell crafts, I envision how our pieces transform living spaces.
My passion for interior design and creating warm, inviting homes guides our product decisions. I understand how the right accents can dramatically change a room's feel.
My goal? To help you turn your house into a home that truly reflects you. From selecting finishes to visualizing placement, I'm here to ensure each Lumi & Wood piece not only looks beautiful but feels right in your space.

I'm AJ and I've been with Lumi & Wood since 2023.
I've always had a passion for building and fixing things, and after a long career in advertising, I made woodworking my full-time focus.
At Lumi & Wood, I love implementing new tools and processes for making beautifully high-quality products. Whether it's an old hand tool or modern laser machine, we're all about making the best product in the best possible way.
In addition to Lumi & Wood, I build custom furniture and cabinets at my home shop in Portland, Oregon.
Outside of the shop, I'm usually hiking the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my wife Jenn and our two dogs, Hugo and Penelope
